Debra Newman

BSc(hons), Fdsc, RGN, MBACP (acc)

Welcome to my counselling practice in Dorset.

I am a fully qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I abide by its code of ethics and am fully insured.

As a Person-Centred Counsellor, I value an approach that is respectful, empathetic and non-judgemental. I work integratively - meaning each person is unique and this is reflected in how I work with you; drawing upon and incorporating other methods to meet individual needs and preferences. We have within us the resources to grow, heal and to feel comfortable with who we are.

Life’s troubles, past or present, can sometimes get in the way.  I support people to find the ways that are right for them to move forward or find peace with difficult and painful situations. Together we work through what you choose to bring to therapy at a pace that suits you. It is my aim to provide a safe, warm and confidential service to all my clients.

I have extensive experience working with the NHS, initially as a Registered General Nurse and later as a Counsellor within GP practices. This gives me a good understanding of how the mind and body work together and what happens in health and illness.

Further to this, I have experience working within trauma; including rape and sexual abuse, where I worked with West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre for two years, and critical incident response, such as when I provided support to members of the Manchester community following the tragic bombing.

I’ve completed EMDR training and am also an Anger UK certified counsellor and can offer individual and group counselling.

I work with adults in short and long term work.  If you would like a no-obligation chat at a time that suits you, give me a call, send me a text or email me.
